A standout example of tropical modernism reimagined, North River House is a luxury villa that bridges architectural legacy with forward-thinking interiors. Originally designed by Jacob Brillhart, pioneers of climate-conscious architecture, the home is now undergoing a transformation guided by Studio RODA. Rather than overwrite the existing narrative, the studio chose to extend it. A modern architectural addition now connects to the original via a sleek glass bridge, allowing the design to unfold like a conversation between past and present. The studio collaborated directly with the original architect to understand the DNA of the home, ensuring the new structure honors its origins while bringing a refined, contemporary edge. Inside, the interiors layer tropical modernism with mid-century Brazilian influences. The palette is rich but restrained: think slatted wood, poured concrete, and furniture custom-built or sourced to echo the home’s architectural rhythm. A hammered stainless steel kitchen island adds sculptural contrast. A built-in bar and private cinema amplify the villa’s sense of modern luxury, while louvers and breezeways nod to its island context. Currently under construction, North River House isn’t just a renovation, it’s a redefinition of contemporary tropical living.
